Your writing stays yours. Here is exactly what that means.

Most writing tools keep your manuscript on their servers. coax doesn't keep a copy of your book — and that changes what this page has to say.

Your manuscript lives in a folder you own, on your own machine and in your own cloud storage if you choose one. coax keeps no copy of your book. There is no database of manuscripts to breach, sell, or lose. The one time your whole book is on coax's servers is while a whole-book review reads it: it is deleted as soon as the reading ends, and at the very latest within 24 hours.

What coax stores about you

Only what an account needs to work:

Usage records count tokens, not words. They record that a request happened and how large it was. They do not contain any part of what you wrote.

What coax never does

Never keeps your manuscript. Your chapters, characters and notes are files in your folder. coax reads them to do its job and writes changes back. The only server copy is the temporary one a whole-book review reads, deleted when the reading ends.
Never trains on your writing. coax doesn't train any model on what you write, and Anthropic's commercial terms say it doesn't train on what coax sends it.
No analytics, no tracking, no behavioural telemetry. coax does not watch how you use it. This is a deliberate product decision, not an oversight — it is why feedback has to be something you choose to send.
No advertising, and no selling or sharing your data with anyone for their own purposes.

The AI part, plainly

coax is a writing coach built on AI models it does not own. To answer a question or draft a passage, the relevant part of your work has to be sent to the company that runs the model.

Who sees your text, and when

These companies process that text to return a result. coax does not send them your whole book — only what the task needs. The voices that read your story and speak for coax run on your device and send nothing anywhere. So does recall: when coax looks for a related note, or something you decided in an earlier conversation, it searches your files on your device. No other service sees that search. What it finds goes to Anthropic only as part of answering you, as in the table above.

Bring your own key

If you supply your own Anthropic API key in Settings, requests go directly from your device to Anthropic under your own account, and coax's servers are not involved at all. The key is kept in coax's settings on that device.

What the AI writes is marked as the AI's

coax records which words it wrote and which are yours, and keeps that distinction as you edit. That is a craft feature rather than a privacy one, but it matters here too: coax can always tell you what it contributed.

Your choices

Where your files live — your own device, or your iCloud Drive. That is your storage, under your account, subject to that provider's terms.
Whether to use the AI at all — the editor works without it.
Whose AI account pays — ours, or your own key.
Updates — if you signed up for updates, every email has an unsubscribe link, and asking us to delete you removes the record.

Your rights

coax is run by WhyTwo Consulting Ltd in the United Kingdom. Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of the personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. To delete your account, email us (below): we remove your sign-in record, beta application and status, the AI's name, your storage choice, your credit and your usage history, your Mac update tokens, and any whole-book review still waiting to be collected. Server logs age out on their own within about 30 days. Payment records are kept as long as the law requires.

Your manuscript is unaffected by any of that — it is on your own disk, and deleting your coax account does not touch it.
